I don’t know if you watched any of the MTV Video Music Awards, but the portions I watched made me sad. And discouraged.  These performers are considered the country’s top mainstream musicians and entertainers? I’m still scratching my head.
However, I refuse to wallow in despair about the state of affairs at the “top” of this musical mountain I’m climbing. Instead I will focus on the positive aspects of the climb itself, and I encourage you to do the same!

Take the San Diego Songwriters Meetup community, for example.
Led by Cliff Keller, this free organization hosts various songwriting workshops and performer showcases every month. It is a safe place for songwriters to share music and resources while giving/receiving support for their common passion of self-expression through music.
Tonight, the SD Songwriters Meetup will hold a live performer showcase at Rebecca’s coffee shop in South Park. Headlining will be Claudia Nygaard. Claudia is a former Nashville Music Row staff writer and winner of the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival. Her latest CD “Let the Storm Roll In” climbed to #1 on the Roots Country chart, #8 on the Folk DJ chart, and is receiving rave reviews in music magazines.
Also featured will be MeetUp member Nick Valentini, playing original compositions accompanied by the MeetUp’s professional House Band.
The show starts at 7pm. Grab a buddy and support live, local music! Supporting these independent and local artists is one of the only ways to transform the “top” of that mountain!
Rebecca’s is located at 3015 Juniper Street / San Diego, CA 92104. Find out more about the SD Songwriters Meetup here
