Fly Ramona Radio, Fly!
In 2005 Tim Flack of Idynomite Media asked me to host his local music podcast. It’s the first time I’d ever heard that word “podcast” (still such a weird word) so I was confused but flattered so I accepted. Over the next few years or so we produced dozens of shows combining our favorite local musicians and telling folks about their shows. Bands like Transfer, Deadline Friday, SweetTooth, and various other legends that still rock today like Tori Roze, Steph Johnson, Christopher Dale, and Jeff Berkley. The Listen Local Show also featured artist interviews that showcased musician’s songs and stories. Those playlists are still available on demand, you just have to scroll WAY down to get to 2005.
In 2009 I began hosting The Homegrown Hour on 102.1 KPRi after Astra Kelly and Madison resurrected the long dormant show that originated on KGB decades earlier. That gig was fun and taught me a LOT about the radio biz. Mostly, that it’s a lot of work and it doesn’t pay very well so you have to love it. I did. I hosted the show for 6 years and when they sold the station in 2015 I began producing and hosting The Listen Local Show online. I purchased the domain name ListenLocalRadio.com with the dream of creating an online station that played nonstop local music and featured our local music makers as radio personalities hosting their own shows and it all streamed throughout the city. *sigh* Then I remembered I had no tech skills and less money so instead, I’ve been happily producing my show (the same way I learned how to do it in 2005! lol) monthly for the past decade, all thanks to the support of my Patreon subscribers. Thanks you guys!
