The first Acoustic Alliance took place in December of 2004 at The Brick by Brick. The show presented a dozen songwriters performing 3 songs each “in the round”. There were 3 sets each featuring 4 artists. The series continued every few months for over 15 years, introducing folks to over 250 singer/songwriters. The list of performers is a testament to the incredible talent San Diego has seen over the past few decades. Check out the alumni!! These days, I produce an Acoustic Alliance every few years instead of every few months. Once such event is happening THIS month and it’s gonna be a good one!! I’ll tell you all about it below, but first… here is this month’s Listen Local Show guest co hosted by my pal Grant Bentley. Lots of new music and good conversation to be had, tune in here:
Ok, so back to THE ACOUSTIC ALLIANCE at The Dell. The Dell is an incredible event space/home in Ramona located right next door to Hatfield Winery. It has views, a pool, jacuzzi, 4 bedrooms and a kitchen to die for. Old California style, comfy, elegant… The Dell has it all, Take a tour! On Saturday, September 20th doors will open at 1pm so you can spend an hour enjoying The Dell before the show starts. At 2pm the first set of 3 songwriters will take the stage: Michael Deluca, Grant Bentley and Dana Duplan. They’ll rotate the spotlight and present 4 songs each. At 3pm their set will conclude and we’ll take a short break to get the next 3 set up: Rhea Makiaris, Cara Cormier and Mark Torpey. At 4:30 Set 3 features Thea Tochihara, Sande Lollis and Thirds Apart. At 5:30 we’ll break for dinner, pork sliders, coleslaw and beans served by our gracious hosts James and Rath, then we’ll present set 4 with Lisa Sanders, Kevin Searle and myself with Patric Petrie. I know the poster says I go on earlier but Rhea Makiaris was offered a great gig that night so she requested I switch places with her, which I agreed to do b/c I love that girl! 😉 Then? The final set will be a few songs from the folk opera musical HOP ON BOARD and you’re NOT gonna wanna miss that!! Ok, so. This is a seated, listening room environment and tickets are $40 per person which include dinner. There is 1 room remaining if you’d like to stay the night with us (we’ll have an after party jam on the patio under the stars with all of our overnight guests!). The Barona Room is available for $200 which includes 2 tickets to the show and dinner. If you’d like to purchase tickets you can do so via Venmo, Paypal or Zelle by visiting this link. This is going to be a super sweet event made even sweeter by your attendance!
What ELSE is happening in September in Listen Local land? I’m glad you asked! I hope to see your face sometime this month. xo Cathryn
