Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper in San Diego. Champion fiddler Michael Cleveland and his outstanding band Flamekeeper will be in San Diego on Wednesday, March 2 for a show in La Jolla presented by the San Diego Bluegrass Society. Admission is free (donations are solicited) and there will be a 30-minute opening set by acclaimed local band Lighthouse. The show will be held at the La Jolla Christian Fellowship Church, 627 Genter St, La Jolla, CA 92037. Doors open at 6:45 pm, Lighthouse at 7 pm, and Flamekeeper at 7:30 pm.

If you like hot bluegrass fiddling, this is the show for you! Michael Cleveland is the most awarded fiddler player in the history of bluegrass music, having won ten IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year awards and having just been crowned the 2016 Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music fiddler player of the year.

The Steep Canyon Rangers are coming to San Diego for a rare local show. From North Carolina, a state that’s produced the likes of Doc Watson, James Taylor, and the Avett Brothers, the “Steeps” are the next sensation. It’s their mix of serious chops and good-natured fun that earned the Steep Canyon Rangers the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album in 2013 (for Nobody Knows You), and that drew celebrated comedian and banjoist Steve Martin to them when he needed a backing band.

The Rangers are world-class musicians who are just as at home at Carnegie Hall as they are at a local jam session or in the hills of North Carolina on a fly fishing outing. You can expect an outstanding show! You can see the Steep Canyon Rangers on Wednesday, March 9, 8pm, at the Music Box, 1337 India St., San Diego. Visit www.themusicboxsd.com or call 619-795-1337. Tickets are $18 and there is food and liquor service. 21 and up.
