MohaviSoul Shines at the International Bluegrass Music Awards
by Dwight WordenDecember 2021
I hope everyone had a great turkey day filled with bluegrass music, friends, great food, and good times. We all needed that after a tough year and can hopefully look forward to more as we enter the holiday season. Here’s an update on bluegrass goings on.
MohaviSoul on stage at IBMA in Raleigh, North Carolina.
MohaviSoul at IBMA. Local bluegrass band MohaviSoul was selected as a showcase band for this year’s IBMA event in Raleigh, North Carolina, held in October. That’s a big deal. Prior bands to receive this honor are few, including Nickel Creek and Down the Road. Here’s an excerpt of band leader Randy Hanson’s report on their adventures in Raleigh: MohaviSoul, from San Diego, California, was a showcase artist for the Bluegrass Ramble at the 2021 IBMA World of Bluegrass in Raleigh, North Carolina at the end of September. Many consider the yearly gathering in Raleigh a crucial event for all the acoustic music community. Considering all the bluegrass greats that hail from our part of America, we were honored to be the first band invited from SoCal since Nickel Creek. It’s called show business for a reason and music was just part of the hectic schedule, which included “speed dating” with festival and venue promoters, as well as hosting a booth in the Business Convention Center. We hung out and jammed with talented musicians from all over the world and gained a solid reputation for good picking and good times. We are proud the California Bluegrass Association supported us and said we represented the California sound so well. MohaviSoul is: Randy Hanson on mandolin, Jason Weiss on banjo, Dan Sankey on fiddle, Mark Miller on guitar, and Orion Boucher on bass. Congratulations and way to go guys!
