Bluegrass Corner

Ah, Summergrass!!

The San Diego bluegrass community is still savoring the great 2019 Summergrass Festival, which took place in Vista in August. Rather than yammer on about it, here is a photo run down of some of the action, courtesy of photographer extraordinaire David Cupp.

Duck Foot Brewery Jam Sessions. The San Diego Bluegrass Society, a non-profit organization, and Duck Foot Brewery have collaborated to launch a new twice-monthly jam session on the second and fourth Sunday of the month, from 1-4pm. The sessions are open to the public and are free. The brewery (great beer, by the way!) is located in the Miramar area at 8920 Kenamar Dr., #120, San Diego 92121. The jams began in June and have been great fun. Stop on by, and bring your instrument! Next up is Sunday, October 13.

Why we love Bluegrass. Ah, let me count the ways! It’s authentic, it’s virtuosic, it’s accessible, it speaks to and from the heart, it’s family friendly, it has a culture of friendliness bred from the best of southern hospitality, it has a culture of jamming, it’s not electrified, it’s participatory, it’s an authentic American art form, and, most of all, it’s fun to play and listen to!
