FYI

David Cassidy in San Diego

by Bart MendozaDecember 2017

David Cassidy

David Cassidy, who passed away on November 21, spent a bit of time in San Diego, but it wasn’t always for music. In addition to his more familiar show biz life, Cassidy was a respected horse owner/breeder who could often be found at the Del Mar Racetrack. With so much film, TV, and stage work, it’s easy to see why Cassidy didn’t tour a lot during his career, but in the 37 years since the Partridge Family first hit the airwaves, he still managed to perform locally six times, plus put in numerous other appearances, as noted below:

Who is your favorite cartoon character and why?

Johnny Vernazza / Elvin Bishop Group: Bugs Bunny without a doubt! He was anything he wanted to be at anytime and was the ultimate wise guy. There is something in his caricature that made him a super hero. You can get away with anything if you just channel a little Bugs in ya!

Sue Palmer: Betty Boop — I liked the music that went with her.

Sandi King / King Taylor Project: Well that’s too hard! Rick and Morty is an obsession currently. There are too many great characters to choose one. Mr. Poopy Butthole, Squanchy, Bird Person, I could go on…”

Josh Taylor / King Taylor project: No contest. Rick Sanchez. A hyper intelligent creative sociopath with access to infinite realities and hilariously detached dialogue–what more entertaining character could be contrived?

Liz Grace / Three Chord Justice: “My favorite cartoon character is a muppet; Miss Piggy. She’s smokin’ hot, has great style, loves to eat and doesn’t suffer fools.”

Joel Kmak / The Farmers: “I like Boris and Natasha from Bullwinkle. Mojo Nixon came as Natasha and his wife, Adair, came as Boris to one of my Halloween parties years ago and I still can’t get it out of my mind. I have a picture somewhere.”

Levi Dean / The Americats: “Tigger is my favorite: always positive and well intended (even though it often leads him into trouble).”

Spike Mike Muellenberg / Spice Pistols: “It’s a tie between Underdog and George of the Jungle
both because of their bungling yet kind nature. But more so due to the best theme songs
I’ve always wanted to cover the Underdog theme song.”

Evan Caleb Yearsley / Casey Hensley Band: “Batman cause we all know he can kick Superman’s butt and he has all the cool weapons!”

Sue Delguidice / The Dinettes: “Well, its two, but the Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle was a favorite as a kid. I knew it was edgy, but after rewatching them when I was older, I realized how political and satirical it was. It was a whole package, with the Fractured Fairytales also hilarious on their own.”
